Recreation (Rec)
My child has never played baseball before, is this the right place for them?
Absolutely!
The Bowie Baseball maintains an Rec league where all players have the opportunity to play regardless of prior skills or ability. Our coaches work very hard to make sure that all of our players enjoy themselves and learn during all practices and games. We believe strongly that everyone should have the opportunity to get out and play ball!
What do I have to provide as a parent?
The items you need to provide is a pair of solid grey baseball pants and a baseball glove. You will also be asked to volunteer.
Bowie will provide a uniform shirt, hat, and each team will be outfitted with batting helmets, bats, catchers gear, and similar necessary equipment. You may provide your own equipment (like a cleats, bat, batting helmet, etc.) as long as it meets the league rules on equipment. The league will not be held responsible for anything that happens to the equipment you provide.
How much does it cost?
The cost is updated annually and can be found on the Recreation Page. Bowie Baseball makes every effort to make playing affordable for everyone. If you have any financial questions that are not answered here, send us a note at the bottom of the page and we will get back to you.
How many games will my child’s team play?
During the spring season, we expect to play between 6-10 games. As much as we may try we cannot control the weather and games will be rained out from time to time. The league will reschedule games wherever possible to make sure you get your money’s worth.
Where will games be played?
You can check out a full list of the fields we play at by viewing our Field Locations page. Also, in the TeamSnap app you will have the field name, and directions to the field available to you at the click of a button.
When will the season end?
Our season will conclude by the end of the Prince George’s County Public School’s year.
How will my child be assigned to a team? Can they play with their friends?
We assign players based on their age. You may specify a coach or team you would like your child to play with and we will do our best to accommodate that, however we cannot guarantee all requests will be met. In addition, we host a player’s assessment each year for Recreation so that our teams are balanced and fair. If a player does not attend the assessment, they will receive a neutral rating and will be assigned a team. We highly encourage all players to attend assessments each year. We do our best to complete player assessments in less than 2 hours.
Can my child change teams?
Only under certain extenuating circumstances will a player be allowed to change during a season. The change will be handled by the recreation age group director or Baseball Commissioner.
